Juliet Evancho Biography

Juliet Evancho (birth name Jacob Evancho) was born on May 27, 1998 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to the family of Michael and Lisa Evancho. She and her three younger siblings; Jackie, Rachel and Zachary grew up in a close-knit Catholic family in suburban Pittsburgh. By 2010, her father ran a video security business. Growing up, Juliet had much of her early education in Pine-Richland School District public schools, although like her sister Jackie, she was also tutored online.

She was later transferred to cyber school, where she graduated in spring 2017. But Juliet felt different from Jacob all the time. Being small and male, she always preferred to play with Barbie dolls. She would do makeup and dress up with her sister Jackie. Soon her mother began getting her princess dresses; The signs young Jacob left out were still unknown to him.

After so much research and introspection, it wasn’t long before young Juliet Evancho realized that the unexplained feelings he always had were also shared by a larger community, which he identified as transgender. As a result, Juliet began working with a therapist in 2012 when the next step forward came and this involved the right timing to make up her mind.

On her 17th birthday in May 2015, Jacob finally announced her big transition from male to female to his family and extended family, who gave her all their support. While she continues to appreciate the support of her extended family, Juliet admits her first fan was her mother, who had noticed the telltale signs since childhood. Her mother got her a wig and some girls clothes and of course kept them a secret. After her mother, the first people to know about Juliet Evancho’s decision were her younger sister, Jackie. But Jackie knew all too well the avalanche of teasing that would follow if this went public.

The transition wasn’t going to be easy—she ended up teaching, but the support of her family helped cushion the bumpy ride from male to female. The Evanchos eventually lost a son and gained a daughter in return. In 2015, Juliet Evancho returned to public school, not as her male friends know her. The school has used its history to design a course designed to better protect prospective transgender students, but that comes at a price. Not only does Juliet continue to tell her transition story, but she also fights for the rights of other transgender people. Let’s look at some of them in the facts section.
