He was born on September 14, 1995 in Gainesville, Georgia. Watson began showing an inclination towards football from a young age. He is a graduate of Gainesville High School. At school, Watson was very popular with football and was an important part of the school’s football team. Starting as a freshman at quarterback, he recorded impressive streaks including 17,134 total yards, 218 touchdowns and 155 state-level career pass touchdowns.

His impressive performance during his junior year earned him many awards and titles including Junior All-American, 2014 Player to Watch and many other accolades. His sophomore and senior years were also impressive with several record-breaking achievements. After successfully completing high school, Watson received several scholarship offers from various universities, but later went to Clemson University.

Watson joined Clemson in 2014, starting out as a true freshman and a replacement for former player Cole Stoudt. One of his notable records in his freshman season was his record passing 6 touchdown passes, 435 yards in a 50-35 win over North Carolina Tar Heels. He also made 29 of 41 passes for 479 yards and four touchdowns in three games.

After injury, Watson rebounded into his sophomore year and led his team to a 12-0 record. After the 2015 season, history recorded him as the first Clemson player invited to present the Heisman Trophy. In his junior year, Watson recorded great accomplishments, including his 306 yards, five touchdowns and three interceptions in the 42-36 win over Louisville. The talented player was selected as the winner of the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award and also won the Manning Award. He helped the Tigers win their second national championship after a three-decade drought at the 2017 College Football Playoff National Championship.
