Thomas Robinson was born on March 17, 1991 in Washington, DC and was raised primarily by his mother, Lisa Robinson. He attended Brewster Academy in Wolfeboro, New Hampshire, where he was on the school’s basketball team. During his senior year in college, Robinson averaged 16 points, 13 rebounds, and 5 blocks per game. He was considered a good prospect by the scouts and he ended up playing for Kansas.
In his first year at Kansas, he started just He played one of 33 games. He averaged 2.5 points, 0.3 assists and 2.7 rebounds per game. In his sophomore year, he had another 33-game season as far as appearances go and he started in two games. Thomas averaged 7.6 points, 0.6 assists and 6.4 rebounds per game. Prior to the start of his third year at Kansas, Robinson was shortlisted for the John R. Wooden Award.
Robinson was the first Kansas player since Wayne Hightower in 1961 to record a 30/20 performance when on December 31, 2011, he scored 30 points and 21 rebounds in a game against the University of North Dakota. At the end of his third season, he averaged 17.7 points, 1.8 assists, and 11.9 rebounds per game. He was named the Big 12 Player of the Year for 2012.
Robinson decided to enter the 2012 NBA Draft forging his senior season and he was drafted fifth overall by the Sacramento Kings. While with the Sacramento Kings, he never started a game but appeared in 51 games averaging 4.8 points, 0.7 assists, and 4.7 rebounds per game. In early 2013, he was traded to the Houston Rockets where he played 19 games without a start and averaged 4.5 points, 0.5 assists, and 4.1 rebounds per game.
Again he was traded to the Portland TrailBlazers where he recorded 14 points with a career-high 18 rebounds in a win over the Minnesota Timberwolves. He averaged 70 games, 4.8 points, 0.5 assists, and 4.4 rebounds per game. In his second season with the Portland Trail Blazers, he was often on the bench starting 4 games and playing 22 games overall.
In 2015, Thomas Robinson was traded to the Philadelphia 76ers and in his debut for the 76ers, he scored 7 points and 6 rebounds. He was again traded to the Brooklyn Nets. His season-best record with the Nets was 18 points in a loss to the Orlando Magic. He started 7 games but appeared in 71 games with 4.3 points and 5.1 rebounds per game. Robinson then signed with the Los Angeles Lakers in September 2016. He started just one game but played in 48 others. He averaged 5.0 points and 4.6 rebounds per game.
In 2017, Robinson decided to try his hand overseas and signed with Russian side Khimki. In the EuroLeague with Khimki, he started one of 20 games and averaged 8.2 points and 5.8 rebounds per game. Upon his return to the NBA, he was drafted by the Atlanta Hawks in August 2018, but was waived by the Hawks in October of that year.
