Aja Naomi King was born in Los Angeles on 11. January 1985. As a child, she grew up in Walnut, California. She attended the University of California, Santa Barbara, where she received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in acting. In 2010, she earned a master’s degree in Fine Arts from Yale University’s School of Drama. During her master’s degree at Yale, she had the opportunity to take part in numerous productions, including: Angels in America: A Gay Fantasy on National Issues, Little Shop of Secrets , and A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

Early in her career, she was fortunate to have several short film roles. In 2010, she made her television debut when she guest-starred in the Blue Bloods series. In 2014, she got a regular cast for another hit series called Getting Away With Murder in which she played the role of Michaela Prat.
