It was a busy Monday night at the Greater Nevada Field as people gathered to watch the World Series together. The Reno Aces hosted a watch party to support their former players that are currently with the Arizona Diamondbacks competing against the Texas Rangers.
Unfortunately for our Diamondback fans, the Texas Rangers won game three with a final score of 3 - 1. This puts them at a 2-1 advantage in the World Series so far.
Regardless of Monday's final score, fans watched a historical moment unfold for the first time in Reno Aces history — their parent club is playing in the World Series.
"We are excited to cheer on the Diamondbacks here," said Chief Commercial Officer for the Reno Aces Mike Murray. "Our affiliate team is in the World Series. 14 of our guys from this season are playing at the big-league level and 19 on the roster have played here in Reno, so we are really just cheering on the senior Aces or the Arizona Diamondbacks."
Before Monday's game, the series was tied with the Texas Rangers winning one game on Friday the Arizona Diamondbacks winning one on Saturday. While the Diamondbacks are lagging behind right now, the Reno Aces say this year's World Series is exciting for our local baseball team.
"To continue the conversation of baseball is always a good thing. It helps us out tremendously because we don't get to disappear from people's minds while the Diamondbacks are doing well. We're thrilled that they are going this deep into the season, that they're in the World Series. That's just great for us because our guys are there," says Murray.
One supporter told me he's been looking forward to this event because it's a great opportunity to spend time with friends and celebrate with other fellow fans.
"My buddy who's a season ticket holder is here," said Reno Aces season ticket holder Anthony Spots. "And I haven't seen him since the season ended, and it's just a great chance to root on the team with everybody in attendance and hear the cheers."
Another fan said he's been waiting for this moment for over twenty years.
"It's super important because a lot of the Reno Aces are a part of this team," said Diamondbacks fan Mike Richards. "I've been a Diamondbacks fan since they started back in 1998, so for me it's been a long time coming because we haven't won a World Series since 2001."
The Texas Rangers may be in the lead now, but it's still just the beginning with four more games to go. The next game is Tuesday at 5 p.m.
