Jung was born in the metropolitan city of Gwangjuen, South Korea, on February 18, 1994. The Korean musician is best known for his vocal prowess, but it wasn’t where he tried to revive his career. Jung’s first love was dancing and he did it with remarkable passion.

Before all fame, he was a street dancer and member of an underground dance crew known as Neuron. In fact, he had already made something of a name for himself in local circles. During his dance years, Hoseok won numerous local awards and memorably won first place in a national dance competition in 2008. He was only 14 at the time.

Soon his interests began to evolve naturally and include skills such as singing and rapping. This encouraged him to audition to become a Korean idol trainee.

Soon his talents saw him nabbed by Big Hit Entertainment. The entertainment company formed a boy group called BTS (Bangtan Boys) with Jung Hoseok and six other guys. Jung and his new vocal group debuted their debut single More Dream from their debut album 2 cool 4 skool. The album was released in June 2013 and the band won numerous New Artist Awards for their efforts.

J-Hope and BTS have released several other award-winning albums over the years, including Dark and Wild (2014), and Wings (2016).

BTS may be a very popular singing group in their homeland of South Korea and beyond. However, J-Hope’s drive means the group’s success isn’t enough for him. In 2018, he started his solo musical career. On March 1, 2018, J-Hope released his first solo project – a mixtape titled World of Hope. On the same day, he also released a music video for one of the songs Reverie. This song peaked at number one on the World Digital Songs chart.

The EP came in at No. 63 on the Billboard 200, eventually peaking at No.38 on the chart, making him the only solo K-pop artist to have reached this milestone. The project also ranked No. 35 on the Canadian Albums Chart and No. 19 on the US Top Rap Albums chart.

The unprecedented success of J-Hopeses debut solo efforts have earned him plenty of personal accolades. He came in at No. 3 on the Emerging Artists chart and ranked No. 97 on the Artist 100 chart for the week beginning March 10. It moved into the following 91st week from March 17.

Jung was also in a TV series called Runner in 2015.

Jung’s father is a literature teacher at Gwangju High School, the same school the K-pop entertainer attended. His parents, especially his mother and older brother, a sister named Jung Ji Wo, always supported Jung’s dreams and encouraged him.
